Weekly News 16 October 2023

Thank you

On behalf of the club, we would like to say a huge thank you to all the mahi Stephen Day and Simon Keller have put into Wellington Scottish. They has really gone above and beyond with their support and running of ‘On the Run’ , the social media accounts and our newsletter. Stephen Day has put hours of work and strava stalking in behind the scenes to deliver us timely results and support our PBs. We have really enjoyed Simon Keller’s thoughtful contributions to ‘On the Run’. Track and Field Helpers Needed

Athletics Wellington is looking for people to help with entries and results management for track and field meets at Newtown Park. These roles are essential to ensure that track and field meets can be held and results published in accordance with good practice. The work is interesting, and provides opportunities to learn new skills.  Ideally, helpers will have some experience with event registration systems or managing information about people, and some knowledge of track and field athletics, but we will be able to provide training.

Senior track and field meets are held on various Saturday afternoons through the summer season, and we also have Junior track and field meets on six Sundays through the season. For people who are available during the week, there are opportunities to assist with results management for schools meets during the day, and also for our mid-week Twilight Track meets.
To find out more, or to express your interest in supporting track and field meets in this way, please contact Marshall Clark at marshallclark21@gmail.com, or Tony Rogers, General Manager, at gm@athleticswellington.org.nz

Remutaka Rail Trail Run and Walk, 11 November

This is a fun run and walk on the Remutaka Rail Trail through the Remutaka Ranges. We start at 254m above sea level and cruise up a shallow gradient (<1 in 40) all the way to the turnaround near the summit. This is a scenic and historic route that is a jewel in the Wellington region. The steep, bush-clad valley, the river below, tunnels, bridges and plenty of sweaty people make for a great morning out. This course can easily be negotiated by any modestly fit person. All distances are predominantly on hard-packed gravel tracks. Water is supplied throughout the course and there will also be a coffee cart near the Kart Club clubroom.

Details and entry

The Agency Group 10000m Festival and NZ Championship, 18 November

Newtown Park hosts the most popular set of 10,000m races in New Zealand. For the last five years, this has been a night of PBs for athletes of all speeds — 40 percent of athletes finished with a new best time.
