NZ Cross Country Champs

We had a small pride of Lions at the New Zealand Cross Country on Saturday. John Skinnon reports: “t was allegedly minus 2 deg at the start of our 65+ race. But a beaut day emerged. Two little hillocks to climb and 3 hard packed sand bunkers to traverse.”

Running the 8,000m race.:

  • Joe Martin 26:51.66
  • Simon Keller 31:11.16
  • Todd Stevens 32:14.08
  • Peter Stevens 33:12.97

And in the 6,000m:

  • John Skinnon 33:58.71

Well done to the Wellington men’s masters 50-64 team, which won silver. And to John who got silver in the 75+ and was the third runner for the 3 person 65+ Centre team, which won bronze.

The Scottish Mentor Programme is Live!

One valuable part of being a member of Wellington Scottish is having access to a group of experienced runners, who have been through the seasons and know the running community inside-out. Our mentor programme has been built to help Wellington runners to connect with their community and to find a home in the sport.

Mentors allow prospective and new club members to connect with someone who knows a thing or two about how to get the most out of a membership with Scottish. If you know someone who is interested in joining a running club, but is unsure of how it all works, send them to one of our fine mentors.

4 October: NZ Road Relays, Feilding

National Road Relays will be held in Feilding on Saturday 4 October. This is the club’s biggest and most enjoyable event of the year. Please keep the weekend free and make sure you can come along. You can express your interest in participating here.

Accommodation will be in two hotels in Palmerston North, for the nights of Friday 3 October and Saturday 4 October. We have a venue booked for our club dinner on Saturday 4 October. Travel to and from Palmerston North will be in a combination of private cars and rental vans. Costs will be subsidised by grants and club funds. We have tentatively set the cost per athlete at $200, which will include race entry, accommodation, the club dinner, any van or car rental, and a special Scottish-themed gift (sounds like socks to me, but who can say for sure?). We will ask for payment later, when costs have been confirmed. The club is willing to offer additional individual needs-based subsidies. Please contact a member of the management committee to enquire.
