W60: Tanya Lavington came third with 19:53.2; Helen Willis finished in 23:40.0

W65: Betty Harp won, with 19:45.4

W70: Loretta Desourdy won, with 26:28.7

Eiger UTMB

Congratulations to Callum Mallett who completed the Eiger ultramarathon (formerly E101/E69) in Grindelwald, Switzerland. Thunderstorms and lightning meant a last-minute course change, but Callum covered the 69km and 4,160m of vert in 10h 3m. Details here

Argentrail – Trail des Grand Montets

Nearby in Chamonix, David Hosking came third in his age group in the stunning Trail des Grand Montets.

James Preston is a finalist in the Nuku Ora’s Āti Awa Toa Wellington Regional Sports Awards in the Sportsperson of the year category. The awards are to be held on Thursday 28 August at the Alan Gibbs Centre, Wellington College.

June Runner of the Month

Congratulations also to Kath Littler for being chosen as our June Runner of the Month. Ryan explains why :

Kath led out Turbine aid station at the WUU2K this year, as well having a very busy season in the rampant lion vest, competing in the Barefoot Xtrail series and the postponed Shaw Baton/Starlight Mākara night run double (both races in 1 day) in fine form. She never boasts about her accomplishments and is a strong and supportive team mate, especially for new members of the club!

Kath has won a well deserved massage with fellow lion Marcos Ángel Valero Palacios at The Rehab Co., Thorndon Quay.

The Scottish Mentor Programme is Live!

One valuable part of being a member of Wellington Scottish is having access to a group of experienced runners, who have been through the seasons and know the running community inside-out. Our mentor programme has been built to help Wellington runners to connect with their community and to find a home in the sport.

Mentors allow prospective and new club members to connect with someone who knows a thing or two about how to get the most out of a membership with Scottish. If you know someone who is interested in joining a running club, but is unsure of how it all works, send them to one of our fine mentors.

Scottish Talks with the Experts are hosted by club members who are striving to deliver excellent content geared toward helping you to get more out of the sport. Coach, Sierra Ryland, is kicking off our series later this month. Details below:

Road Relay volunteers

We are looking for people to help organise the club trip to Road Relays in Feilding. This might include helping with transport, accommodation, team logistics, teaching morale enhancing chants, or baking. If this sounds like you please contact President Andy.

The Wellington 5km and 10km Road Champs are the last of the big interclub races for the season. They are an excellent opportunity to run a fast 5km or 10km time with a large pack of runners to pull you along. They are held in the scenic Wainuiomata Recreation Area. The course is an out-and-back road race using a 1.25km stretch of road that is closed to public traffic. The course is largely sheltered from the wind.

17 January: M*A*S*H Backyard Ultra

The mission is simple: run 6.71km every hour, on the hour, until you can’t go on. The second edition of the M*A*S*H Backyard Ultra takes place over Wellington Anniversary Weekend – kicking off 9am, Saturday 17 January. Directed by General Fiona Hayvice, it’s a battle of endurance packed with camaraderie, chaos, and the kind of challenge you’ll never forget.
