Porirua Grand Traverse (7 April)

Report from Bev Hodge.

  • Duathlon – Todd Stevens, 4th overall, 1st 40-99 yr (3.53.15)
  • 18 km Mountain Run – John Gardiner, 51st 40-99 yr (2.32.55); Bev Hodge 17th 40-99 yr (2.39.33); Karen Jenkinson, 23rd 40-99 yr (2.47.18).

The weather was stunning – blue sky all day. Todd won a prize for his 1st, and I won a bike helmet spot prize. Karen lost a little time at the compulsory traffic light stop close to the finish. It might not be a good idea to wear our Scottish tops, as my friend who was ahead of me all the way looked back several times, each time sighting the bright yellow top. This motivated her to stay ahead of me.

This includes those who just use inhalers around exercise. For more information about taking part, visit the study website or e-mail inform@mrinz.ac.nz.

Coming up

Pack runs at Club Kelburn, 18 May

On Saturday 18 May, the club will hold its pack runs at Club Kelburn. This is the first part of a trial, to see if we would like to set up a longer-term relationship.

Club Kelburn is at 65 Salamanca Rd Kelburn. There is plenty of parking around the tennis courts and in a separate lot below the gym. There are several bus routes that stop on Salamanca Road. Arrive at 1.40, and we’ll have a quick tour of the gym before getting changed and heading out for pack runs at 2.00. The gym is close to Kelburn Park, the Botanical Gardens, Boyd Wilson Field, Tinakori Hill, the Aro Valley, and the waterfront – no excuses for failing to find somewhere good to run!

From 3.00, we’ll have showers, snacks, tea, and coffee available. We’ll also have exclusive access to the sauna, and the club bar will be open, featuring very affordable beer.

If you can’t make it for a run, you’re still welcome to join us for food and drink (or a sauna) at 3.00.

If you have any questions in advance, and especially if you are willing to be a pack leader, contact Simon
