Scottish Night of Miles, Newtown Park Track: Saturday 16 December

It’s this week! The Night of Miles is this week! Saturday 16 December! A great afternoon of pre-Christmas fun for the whole family.

From 4pm to 6:30pm, come and run a mile around the track (that’s only 4 laps!), chase Santa, win the chocolate, and help young kids getting into our sport as we are supporting the Porirua chapter of Trailblazers.

So get your festive spirit on, and enter here before Friday 15 December. The $10 entry fee will go to Trailblazers, but if you have any issues with the payment, please get in touch with Emily or Nico.

Twilight Track Races, Newtown Park: November to February

Get involved in a series of fun, friendly, informal midweek track meetings at Newtown Park, run by Wellington Scottish and Athletics Wellington. These races are open to anyone who is a registered Athletics Wellington Member. It’s a supportive environment and newcomers to track are really welcome 😊

There will be four or five events per meet – a couple of sprints (100m,200m), one or two middle distance (600m to 1500m) and a 3000m or 5000m. The first event is 6.30pm (finished by 7.30pm). 

We’re are always looking for volunteers to help with entries, starting duties and post event pack down.

Entry Information

  • $8 entry fee per meet
  • Entries close at midday on the day of the event – no late entries permitted.

The Honest 10, Freyberg Pool Carpark: 8am Sunday 17 December

The Honest 10 is an accurately measured 5km and 10km fun run on a flat out-and-back course around the Wellington waterfront.Everyone is welcome. Cost is $5 for 5k and $10 for 10k. Check out the Honest 10 website for more details.

Ian Priest Memorial Hutt River Trail event: Saturday 13 January

The Ian Priest Memorial Hutt River Trail event on 13 January 2024 is an annual 60km Ultra Marathon, Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km.

Run or walk an off-road Ultramarathon, Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km, following the course from Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, over the Rail Trail, tracing the Hutt River trail, from the foothills of the Rimutaka Mountains at Kaitoke to the river’s estuary at McEwan Park on the shores of Wellington Harbour.

Jumbo Holdsworth and Hooper Loop Trail Races, Mt Holdsworth: Saturday 27 January

The Jumbo Holdsworth Trail Race & Hooper Loop are trail runs over tracks and hills in the Tararua Forest Park on 27 January 2024.

Southern Cross Wellington Round the Bays: Sunday 18 February

Southern Cross Round the Bays Wellington registrations are open, with the following categories: 5.5km (including buggy walk and active families), 10km and half marathon. You can use the Scottish discount code, SCOTTISH10, when you register (for 10% off the entry fee). We’ll also be doing a call out for volunteer paces so keep an eye out.

Nuku Ora is also on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to take care of their runners and fill a variety of roles. Some of these roles include bib allocation, pre-event set-up, marshals, traffic management, and handing out water, food, medals, and more! There is an opportunity for Wellington Scottish to volunteer collectively and raise funds, as Nuku Ora offers a small donation per volunteer group. End of year celebration and prizegiving: Sunday 25 February

Mark your calendars: from 3-6pm will be our end of year celebration and prizegiving. This year we’ll be switching things up and heading to Wilton Bowling Club. More details to come!

Help Fi Fly: Fundraiser Movie

Fiona (Fi) Hayvice represented New Zealand at the 2023 International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 24-Hour World Championships in Taipei last weekend, amassing an astonishing 174.340km in her third outing at the Champs.

Relying on 100% self-funding, Fi has organised HELP FI FLY: Fundraiser Movie at 5pm on Sunday 17 December (Penthouse Cinema, Brooklyn).

NEXT GOAL WINS: is the story of the infamously terrible American Samoa soccer team, known for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. The heartfelt underdog comedy is director Taika Waititi’s latest release. Check out the trailer.

Before the screening the raffle will be drawn (cash & pre-sales – https://forms.gle/e5mHYz4eQBJwLkVDA, prizes will be held if you’re not in attendance), and Fi will say a few words.

TICKETS are $25 and can be purchased here. Bring your family and friends as this will be an entertaining outing for all!
