Halcombe Relay

Liam Jones ran the 29km, six-person relay by himself and was the 3rd overall in 1:58:09 (and first solo runner).

Honest 10

Grant McLean was second in 35:47 (and age-graded to 30:27!). Ali Campbell 1st in 39:36, Lindsay Young 2nd in 45:02.

Results

39th Johnsonville Road Race and Race Walk

After Saturday’s cold and miserable day, conditions were reasonably good for the race on Sunday morning. Nine walkers and 23 runners took part this year.

Scottish was represented in the walk by Terri Grimmett (3rd), Helen Willis and Maryanne Palmer, and these three formed the winning walking team.

Runners taking part were Kath Littler 2W40-44, Loretta Desourdy 2W65-69 and in the men, Paul Rodway 1M75-79. Other Scottish runners were Don Stevens and Glen Wallis. The team competition was won by Olympic, with Trentham second and Scottish third.

Also assisting on the morning was John Turner (timekeeper), and acting as marshals were Daphne Jones, John Hines and Sean Lake.

Coming up

Wellington Road Championships, Wainuiomata, 19 August

The Wellington Road Champs is the last of the four big interclub races for the year. It is an excellent opportunity to run a fast 5km or 10km time with a large pack of runners to pull you along. It is held in the scenic Wainuiomata Recreation Area. The course is an out-and-back road race using a 1.25km stretch of road that is closed to public traffic. The course is largely sheltered from the wind.

Needle Relay, Kilbirnie, 26 August

A short sharp road relay around Evans Bay and Cobham Drive with teams of five, alternating 5km and 3km laps.

Ballantyne Cup and Shirley Barton Trophy, Miramar, 2 September

6km handicapped road race. The Ballantyne Cup (men) and Shirley Barton Trophy (women) are the club’s most long-standing and arguably most prestigious Scottish trophies.
