Farewell Bob Stephens
Wellington Scottish Life Member Bob Stephens died this weekend. Funeral arrangements haven’t yet been made, but we will share them when we learn them.
Bob was club president from 2001 to 2004. He was bestowed life membership in 2009. Hopefully we will soon be able to share an obituary recording Bob’s longstanding dedication to the club. In the meantime, here are some articles that Bob contributed in recent years to Scottish’s On The Run magazine:

Also below is a link to the nomination form for anyone wanting to put themselves forward for one of the Management Committee roles. With some members of the current committee standing down, we are looking for new members to help guide the club forwards over the coming season!
Membership
The Management Committee has agreed to keep membership fees the same as last year.
- $195 for standard membership (20 years and over)
- $20 discount for prompt renewal by 1 May
- a $20 discount for renewal within one month of membership for those whose membership expires after 1 May
- a $25 singlet for new members
- $115 for non-competitive membership
- $85 for members aged 7 to 19
- $45 for members aged under 6
The committee believes that membership provides great value for members — it covers Athletics Wellington and Athletics New Zealand feed and gives members access to training programmes, free entry to Wellington Centre inter-club events throughout the winter season, subsidised trips to the New Zealand Road Relays and above all the chance to be part of an amazingly supportive running community.
The new membership system will be “live” in our membership system, GameDay, once Athletics New Zealand has published its templates. Based on previous years this is likely to occur around the end of March.
Pace-based training leads
The Management Committee is looking to add some further structure to the main weekly training sessions, with a number of leads for each session covering a range of paces to coordinate groups and be a point of contact for new members.
The main sessions will be as follows:
- Tuesday — Freyberg Pool
- Thursday — Trails
- Saturday AM — Karori Park
- Saturday PM — Pack runs
- Sunday — Freyberg Pool
If anyone is keen to put their hand up and help coordinate any of these sessions, please let someone on the MC know. The intention is that having a group for each session will mean there isn’t an expectation that you turn up to every session. Contact Ryan Woolley if you would like to lead a group.

Coming up
Paced parkruns, 29 March and onwards
Wellington Scottish is again putting on paced parkruns for 2025, based on the strong success and positive feedback from last year. We heard from participants how helpful it was in getting to goal times, had a lot of interest in Wellington Scottish, and contributed to the local running community. It is very easy to Pace. Consider using it as a friendly warm-up to your Saturday session and hanging with your Scottish clubmates. You’ll also get a volunteer credit with parkrun. We’re now looking for pacers, in particular, for this Saturday 29th March. Please sign up using the Stack Duty roster for these events, or message Chris Howard with your preferred date and time.
The 2025 dates are:
