2025 Event Interest Form

We’ve got some updates cooking with regard to how we structure group sessions and the club training programme. To ensure that all efforts properly reflect the needs of the club, a Google Form has been created to capture what races members plan to participate in/target this year – from club and inter-club events to national marathons and regional trail races (and everything in between).

What are you targeting this year?

More info is provided in the intro. Our goal is to get to 100 responses.

Membership

The Management Committee has agreed to keep membership fees the same as last year.

  • $195 for standard membership (20 years and over)
    • $20 discount for prompt renewal by 1 May
    • a $20 discount for renewal within one month of membership for those whose membership expires after 1 May
    • a $25 singlet for new members
  • $115 for non-competitive membership
  • $85 for members aged 7 to 19
  • $45 for members aged under 6

The committee believes that membership provides great value for members — it covers Athletics Wellington and Athletics New Zealand feed and gives members access to training programmes, free entry to Wellington Centre inter-club events throughout the winter season, subsidised trips to the New Zealand Road Relays and above all the chance to be part of an amazingly supportive running community.

The new membership system will be “live” in our membership system, GameDay, once Athletics New Zealand has published its templates. Based on previous years this is likely to occur around the end of March.

Calendar

The draft 2024 / 2025 calendar has been created. Please see the link below, with further details to come in the Stack App.

2025 Draft Calendar.xlsx

Wellington Scottish Events Calendar – 2024 – 2025 (22 Feb 2025).pdf

The first events of the season are as follows:

  • McVilly Shield —  Saturday 22 March, 8.00am at Karori Park
  • The Centennial Cup — the official season opening event — will take place on Saturday 5 April at Island Bay
  • The Scottish Mountain Running Championships will take place on Saturday 12 April

The location of Saturday afternoon pack runs are also yet to be confirmed. Whilst some will be run from the Scottish Clubrooms, there is a desire from the working group that convened last year to rotate around a number of different venues throughout the winter season.

The calendar is busy, with events almost every weekend, making it hard to fit in the number of club races that we have had in previous seasons.

The Galashiels Cup in Eastbourne and Tanadees Cup have been given provisional dates in the calendar, subject to volunteers coming forward to run these events. If you would like to help organise any club events — including ideas for new events or how to reinvigorate existing events — please let the Management Committee know.

Wellington Scottish AGM, 24 March 2025

Wellington Scottish Athletics Club’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, 24 March 2025, at 7pm. The venue is Anderson Park cricket clubrooms.

Paid-up members are entitled to attend and vote at the AGM.

In advance of the meeting, anyone who would like to stand for the committee is requested to fill in a short Google form noting the position they want to be considered for and why they would like to stand.

If anyone is thinking of standing and would like to know more about what it might entail, please contact a member of the current committee.

Call for Tuesday session pace leads

Every Tuesday night, Scottish members tear around the Newtown Track, or tear up Oriental Parade, as they put in the mahi during planned interval sessions. We’re seeing great turnout each week, and we’d love to continue the momentum and energy heading into the winter season. To do so, we need volunteer pace leads to help all members through these sessions, no matter what their preferred pace is. Specifically, we need members who have a 5k time between 21 and 32 minutes to help other runners within this pace bracket.

Contact Ryan Woolley if you would like to lead a group.

Pace-based training leads

The Management Committee is looking to add some further structure to the main weekly training sessions, with a number of leads for each session covering a range of paces to coordinate groups and be a point of contact for new members.

The main sessions will be as follows:

  • Tuesday — Freyberg Pool
  • Thursday — Trails
  • Saturday AM — Karori Park
  • Saturday PM — Pack runs
  • Sunday — Freyberg Pool

If anyone is keen to put their hand up and help coordinate any of these sessions, please let someone on the MC know. The intention is that having a group for each session will mean there isn’t an expectation that you turn up to every session
