Results

Olympics 800m

James Preston was 8th in the first heat of the men’s 800m in 1:48.50 and then 6th in his repechage in 1:50.53.

Afterward his repechage, James told Sky Sport he thought his archilles tendon would prevent him from competing. “I wasn’t going to race, but I don’t want to be left thinking what could have been. I’m just a regular guy with a regular day job, so I roll the dice and that’s the way it goes.”

Paris Marathon Pour Tous

The route for the 42.195km version of the Mass Participation Marathon was the same as the Olympic marathon, and paid tribute to a key moment in French history and the French Revolution: the Women’s March on Versailles on 5 October 1789. This march was a revolutionary event in the history of contemporary France that saw several thousand women march on the palace of King Louis XVI in Versailles, forcing him and his family to return to Paris where people were facing starvation.

In the marathon, Chris Howard finished in 3:51:51 and Jaime Vessiot finished in 4:20:33. In the 10km I can’t find Emma Bassett in the results but Strava suggests she finished in about 54:53.

Parkruns

Lower Hutt Parkrun: Geoff Ferry 19:35, Benjamin Cornelius 23:32, Ian Morton 27:43, Megan Ferry 47:47, Gemma Ferry 49:00. Trentham Memorial Parkrun: Glen Wallis 21:54, .Ōtaki River Parkrun: Terri Grimmett 38:16. Waitangi Parkrun: David Hosking 19:28, Guy Dryden 20:13, Andrew Wells 20:51, Toby Beaglehole 21:56, Jiwon Chun 22:34, Amanda Broughton 27:07. Otago Central Rail Trail Parkrun: Ali Souch 19:52.

Supporters Trust Assistance for NZRR

The Wellington Scottish Supporters Trust provides financial support to make sure our most promising athletes achieve their goals. The trust’s main priority is to help high-performing junior and senior men and women athletes compete in major national and selected overseas events without finance being a constraint.

The trust would like to support senior men, senior women and juniors to race at the National Road Relays in Taupō and are therefore welcoming applications for funding for accomodation and travel from individuals.

Please contact one of the trustees – James Turner, Sharon Wray, Glen Wallis – for further information.

For those wanting to support our most promising senior and junior athletes, donations to the trust are gratefully received, and make a substantial contribution to the ability of our top athletes to achieve their goals and reach their athletic potential. Donations are eligible for an IRD tax credit and a receipt will be provided for this purpose. You can donate by direct bank payment to 38-9006-0470186-00.

Training Plans

Wellington Scottish, in collaboration with Innate Running, has developed some training templates for the buildup to the NZ Road Relay 2024.

The templates have been published in the Stack App and can also be found here, together with a pace calculator:

We will arrange group training around these sessions and are looking for volunteers to help lead them on Saturday mornings in particular.

NZ Road Relays, Taupō

The countdown is on to the most exciting day in the NZ running calendar! The NZ Road Relay Championships 2024 will be held in Taupō, and we need a large pack of rampant lions there. Road relays is our biggest club trip each year. Whether you’re keen to bring out your competitive side or just want to come along for a fun social weekend, there’s a place for everyone in the team.

This year’s format is innovative — we will be racing on the motorsport track for the first time ever. It’ll be flat and fast, with different laps of shorter and longer distances. More details are available at Athletics NZ.

The all-inclusive cost of the trip is $225 per person. The cost includes:

  • Race entry
  • Transport (Bus)
  • Accommodation at the Top10 or Chevron Motel in Taupō on Friday and Saturday nights
  • Buffet dinner on Saturday night

The club is hiring two buses and encouraging all club members and supporters to use this option to travel to Taupō. However, club members can also make their own travel arrangements. The buses will leave (approximately) at mid-morning and mid-afternoon on Friday 27 September. They will return to Wellington on Sunday, 29 September.
