Recruitment and participation coordinator

Wellington Scottish Athletics Club is seeking to contract a dynamic, people-focused individual to lead recruitment and engagement, focusing on athletes in the 18 to 35-year age range.

The successful candidate will ideally have a background in sport—preferably athletics—and a proven ability to develop and deliver programmes to increase participation and engagement.

The Management Committee of Wellington Scottish Athletics Club is seeking applications from both club members and friends/acquaintances of club members who have the right attributes to succeed in this role.

Applications close on Monday 8 July, and should be sent to the committee with the following:

  • A cover note outlining why you are applying for this role
  • A summary of your relevant skills and experience
  • A one-page action plan outlining your proposed approach to recruitment and participation targets outlined in the attached role description

A panel including the President WSAC and two members of the committee will review applications and arrange interviews with shortlisted candidates.

NZ Road Relays, Taupō

Mark your calendars; the most exciting day in the NZ running calendar is drawing near! The NZ Road Relay Championships 2024 will be held in Taupō, and we need a large pack of rampant lions there. Road relays is our biggest club trip each year. Whether you’re keen to bring out your competitive side or just want to come along for a fun social weekend, there’s a place for everyone in the team.

This year’s format is innovative — we will be racing on the motorsport track for the first time ever. It’ll be flat and fast, with different laps of shorter and longer distances. More details are available at Athletics NZ.

The all-inclusive cost of the trip is $225 per person. The cost includes:

  • Race entry
  • Transport (Bus)
  • Accommodation at the Top10 or Chevron Motel in Taupō on Friday and Saturday nights
  • Buffet dinner on Saturday night

The club is hiring two buses and encouraging all club members and supporters to use this option to travel to Taupō. However, club members can also make their own travel arrangements. The buses will leave (approximately) at mid-morning and mid-afternoon on Friday 27 September. They will return to Wellington on Sunday, 29 September.

Athletics Wellington Cross-Country Champs, 21 July

Harcourt Park, Akatarawa Road, Upper Hutt. Races start from 11.00am. The course will be based on a 2km lap, which will be the same as used last year. The lap has a mixture of flat and undulating cross-country running and is suitable for spikes. Each lap crosses a tar sealed road twice. More information is on the Athletics Wellington website.

National Cross-Country Championships 2024, Napier, 3-4 August

This is a great opportunity to have a fun weekend away with other club members, compete in one of the national championship events, watch the other senior events unfold, and participate in the mixed relay on Sunday, 4 August.

This is one of the main club away trips that we promote during the harrier season, and the club will subsidise entries and transport.

The NZXC includes events for juniors, seniors, and masters over a variety of distances up to 10 km (for the senior men).

The weekend away will be good value because we arrange car-pooling, and stay together in group accommodation. There will also be an opportunity on Saturday night to have a group meal and some beverages (but not too many, as the relay is on Sunday morning)

Please register your interest now and book yourself away that weekend. We recommend that you plan on departing Wellington around midday Friday so that we can issue your race pack to you on Friday evening.

Needle Relay, Kilbirne, 17 August

There are three distinct events, open to both registered and social members of clubs: the Walker’s Turkey Trot; the Children’s Needle Relay, and the Needle Relay. Each event starts on the footpath by the wind needle.

Wellington 5km Road Champs, Wainuiomata, 31 August

More details to come.
