Are you the next women’s captain?

Our current women’s captain, Emma S, is passing on the baton and we’re calling for interested club members to step (run?) forward.

Our women’s section keeps growing, and we want to keep making Scottish a great club for women. The captain helps to make that happen.

Parts of the role include helping prospective and new members find their feet with the club, organising relay teams during club season and being a representative for the women’s section with the Scottish management committee.

Get in touch with Emma at e.sturmfels@yahoo.co.nz if you are interested. The role starts from the end of February in time for the new season.

Run Wild for Joe: Saturday 3 February

Join the Wellington running community for a memorial run in honour of well known Wellington trail runner and all round good guy Joe Benbow. Joe tragically died by suicide on 11 September 2023 and left behind his wife and three young tamariki. WoRM (Wellington Running Meetup), Wild Things and the local trail community have organised this event to honour Joe and the contribution he made to our running community, and to fundraise to support his family. Donations collected through registration will go directly to the Benbow family, and donations are also encouraged for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

There are two ways you can take part: Run Wild For Joe Wellington event at the in-person run at Karori Park (from 10am Saturday 3 February 2023), or Run Wild For Joe Virtual Run by taking part wherever you are in a virtual run (anytime Saturday 3 February 2023). See details here: https://run-wild-for-joe.lilregie.com/booking/attendees/new

If you’d prefer to donate instead, there are two options.
– the virtual run option above, directly to the Benbow family.
– the Run Wild for Joe page, for the Mental Health Foundation https://fundraise.mentalhealth.org.nz/runwildforjoe

Southern Cross Wellington Round the Bays: Sunday 18 February

Southern Cross Round the Bays Wellington registrations are open, with the following categories: 5.5km (including buggy walk and active families), 10km and half marathon. You can use the Scottish discount code, SCOTTISH10, when you register (for 10% off the entry fee). We’ll also be doing a call out for volunteer paces so keep an eye out.

Nuku Ora is also on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to take care of their runners and fill a variety of roles. Some of these roles include bib allocation, pre-event set-up, marshals, traffic management, and handing out water, food, medals, and more! There is an opportunity for Wellington Scottish to volunteer collectively and raise funds, as Nuku Ora offers a small donation per volunteer group.
