University Relays
Five of the J team competed in the U10 race, and the Mixed U14 relay team was third. 19 Scottish teams took part in the University Relay, with the closed race between Scottish teams being between the Masters Men B Team and the Senior Mens B team; a fast-finishing Liam Jones passed several Olympic teams but couldn’t catch Simon Keller, who held on for a 7-second victory. Scottish M50C and W50 teams traded places several times throughout the race before a strong anchor leg from Tricia Sloan delivered victory to the women. The W50s were also champions in their grade.
Other grade-winning teams included the M35s, M50s and W35s —whose team of Lindsay Barwick, Emily Solsberg, Carla Denneny and Mel Brandon won by an astonishing 7:28 margin. The W35 B team finished 3rd — scoring the same time, 1:00:28, as the second-placed Trentham team, after President Lindsay passed WHAC and Kapiti and nearly caught Trentham on the line.

NZ Cross Country Champs, 30 July, Taupō
Let us know if you want to join us for a trip to Taupō for the NZ Cross Country Champs. The cross-country championships bring together the best distance runners in NZ — and they are also an excellent opportunity for a club weekend away with runners of all speeds and ambitions.
Spa Park, with its rolling hills, geothermal scenery, hot pools and fast-draining volcanic soil, is one of the best cross-country courses in NZ. And Taupō is a great venue for a club weekend away. We’ll sort out shared accommodation and transport for those who want it, as well as a shared club meal on the Saturday night.

Coming up
Tuesday night session, 6pm outside Freyberg Pool
It’s back, the world-famous Scottish Tuesday night session. Until daylight savings starts again, we will meet outside Freyberg every Tuesday at 6pm, ready for an exciting instalment of reps. Reps will typically be some variation of 500m, 1km and 1.5km at different speeds with different rests. We will break into packs so everyone (no matter your speed or experience) is welcome.
And for those new to Scottish (or not new but have yet to try the Tuesday night session out), do give some thought to coming down over the next few weeks and giving it a go. It has been a lot of fun the last few years, so you don’t want to miss out (and let’s be honest, on those harsh winter nights, it is always nice to have company when you are trying to run at pace).
