Passing on the Presidency baton: A note from Andy Ford

It was fantastic seeing so many Scottish members competing in the 10km championships on Sunday, and I can sense the excitement as teams start to strategise about lap order and fine tune their training for what will be an epic weekend of running and celebrations on the streets (and then in the bars) of Feilding and Palmerston North.

Slick baton changing is also an important part of the weekend and I’d like to inform the membership of a baton change in the management committee. I will be stepping down as President and heading overseas to the UK to work (and run) and am pleased to let you know that Simon Keller has agreed to be the Acting President till the next AGM.

Simon and the rest of the committee will continue to lead club initiatives and deliver the programme over the coming months, including Te Ahumairangi 10,000m in November, the Scottish Night of Miles and club prizegiving, all of which are great events that I’m sad to be missing 🙂

I’ve been a member of Scottish for the last 13 years and can honestly say that the club and the people that make this club so great have given me so much happiness and friendship during that time.

It has been an honour to have served  on the management committee and to have had 18 months at the helm as President. The club – and the sport –  has evolved over the last 10 years, and I truly believe Scottish is the best and friendliest club in the country.

Whilst I am sad to be leaving, I’ll continue to watch the rampant lions from afar and am sure Scottish will go from strength to strength with an excellent committee and very active and engaged membership.

I will be at the Waitangi Parkrun on Saturday 20th September and plan to head for a post race coffee at Coenes.

If you know someone who is interested in joining a running club, but is unsure of how it all works, send them to one of our fine mentors. Learn more here
