Faultline Ultra
What an epic weekend at the Faultline Ultra, with a strong showing from Scottish: On and off the podium, in the volunteer ranks and in some very noisy cheer squads.
Selected highlights:
- Lara Zoeller was second woman home in the “Insanity” 100 Miler, crossing in 24:58:37
- Chester Holt-Quick (pictured above) won the 100km men’s race in 11:03:18 – a new course record
- Mel Brandon (pictured above) won the 100km women’s race in 12:35:29
- Talia Flannery was first woman across the finish line in the 50km race, with 5:32:22
- Tom Callan was second in the 50km men’s race in 4:41:29
- Ngā Kuīni ara Tārai (Hinano Andrews, Amanda Broughton, Yuliya Bozhko and Emily Solsberg) were the only women’s team in the miler relay, crossing in 19:55:39
London Marathon

Rampant Lion Emma Bassett joined the party on the streets of London, completing the marathon on a very hot day in 3:31, cheered on by Chris Howard, and Nico and Jaime Vessiot.
Former member Caleb Hathaway chalked up a new PB in the marathon, crossing the finish line at 2:48:49.

Saturday, May 3: Shaw Baton Relays, Battle Hill
Teams of four race in 2.1km each of hills, horse jumps, ditches, fences and the spectator favourite water pit. The Shaw Baton Relay is the first interclub event of the season. It is hosted by Olympic Harriers and takes place at Pauatahanui’s Battle Hill Farm Park. Entries close on Thursday so make sure to let your captain know by Wednesday at the latest if you want to participate.
Post-run drinks at: The Co-Op Kitchen & Bar, 69a Discovery Drive, Whitby – from about 4pm.
Saturday, May 3: Rotorua Marathon (NZ Masters Marathon Champs)
With a refreshed start and a stunning new finish line right beside the Novotel, the Red Stag full marathon offers an unforgettable journey through Rotorua’s scenic beauty. The half marathon starts by the beautiful Okere Falls before following part of the full marathon’s route. The new Go Media 12km introduces an all-new course starting at Te Puia, where participants will journey through the iconic Pohutu Geyser to the Rotorua lakefront finish. The 5km also unveils a brand-new route, taking runners through the breathtaking sulphur flats.
May 3: New Zealand 5km Road Championships, Rotorua
The Runway5 lights up the Rotorua Airport runway under the stars, with exciting new Runway Mile options.
May 10: NZ 24-Hour Championships
Held at AUT Millennium Stadium in Auckland. May 11: Three Peaks – Event 1
An iconic series of three winter events open to anyone who want to experience varied running/walking trails covering nine iconic peaks of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. Wellington 3 Peaks series, hosted by the Wellington Scottish Athletics Club, kicks off in the Southern Hemisphere Winter. Check out the Wellington 3 Peaks Facebook Page for regular event updates on each event.
Everyone is welcome, and we encourage you to get together with your fellow runners and participate in this series. The event supports the great work of the Wellington City Mission; donate directly to Wellington City Mission. Starting from the Scottish Clubrooms, the three peaks for event 1 are Te Rauparaha Pouwhenua (Tawatawa), Oku Street Reserve and Mount Alfred

May 24: Vosseler Shield
The Vosseler Shield is one of New Zealand’s most historic races. Organised by Wellington Harrier Athletic Club, the Vosseler Shield is the perfect way to test out your early season fitness! For many, finishing the race will be a fantastic goal, as the course takes you up and down the beautiful trails of Mt Vic.
May 31: Vert Day for mental health
Hinano Andrews has organised Vert Day: A challenge to get in a maximum number of vertical climbs over a 24 hour period to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation. Full details and sign-up here.
June 7: Dorne Cup
The Dorne Cup is a flat cross-country race at Trentham Memorial Park that usually takes place on the second Saturday of June. It is one of the biggest and most prestigious cross-country races in New Zealand. Hutt Valley Harriers organises the race.
