We’re saying goodbye to October with a Spooky-themed Waterfront 5km, a race which saw a few long-lost runners back from the dead, and Stranger Things have been happening at Parkrun with not one but two Ultra runners lining up and clocking PB’s over 5km.

Auckland Marathon
Congratulations to our lions who stormed around Auckland over the weekend in some tough conditions. Despite the undulating course (that definitely adds a minute or two to your time), many came away with PBs!
Huge result for Mal Viride, convincingly breaking the 3 hour mark in the marathon with 2.59! Alice Sowry also took home a PB, with a storming 1.31.36 effort in the half marathon. Isabel Bridgman completing her first marathon (that’s a PB!)
in 4.43.41, Floor Kaars Sijpesteijn bagged a top 10 finish (and 1st W35-39!) in the half with 1.26.23, and Sophie Whelan snuck in a sub-90 half finish in 1.29.57! Seamus Kane also ran an eye-watering 1:07:56 for a hard-earned 7 second PB.

Track and Field Helpers Needed
Athletics Wellington is looking for people to help with entries and results management for track and field meets at Newtown Park. These roles are essential to ensure that track and field meets can be held and results published in accordance with good practice. The work is interesting, and provides opportunities to learn new skills. Ideally, helpers will have some experience with event registration systems or managing information about people, and some knowledge of track and field athletics, but we will be able to provide training.
Senior track and field meets are held on various Saturday afternoons through the summer season, and we also have Junior track and field meets on six Sundays through the season. For people who are available during the week, there are opportunities to assist with results management for schools meets during the day, and also for our mid-week Twilight Track meets.
To find out more, or to express your interest in supporting track and field meets in this way, please contact Marshall Clark at marshallclark21@gmail.com, or Tony Rogers, General Manager, at gm@athleticswellington.org.nz

Coming up
Remutaka Rail Trail Run and Walk, 11 November
This is a fun run and walk on the Remutaka Rail Trail through the Remutaka Ranges. We start at 254m above sea level and cruise up a shallow gradient (<1 in 40) all the way to the turnaround near the summit. This is a scenic and historic route that is a jewel in the Wellington region. The steep, bush-clad valley, the river below, tunnels, bridges and plenty of sweaty people make for a great morning out. This course can easily be negotiated by any modestly fit person. All distances are predominantly on hard-packed gravel tracks. Water is supplied throughout the course and there will also be a coffee cart near the Kart Club clubroom.
