Wellington Road Champs
This Saturday is the Wellington Road Champs in Wainuiomata. This event will go ahead under Alert Level 2. If we move back to Alert Level 1 prior to 18 September, we will revert to the original Level 1 timetable and plans (watch for further communication).
Under Alert Level 2, to help with contact tracing, all athletes must register online by Thursday 16 September. The event will be divided into 4 separated races. Each race will be limited to 100 entrants:
- 10.30am 10km (for 40min+ runners)
- 12.30pm 5km (W50+, M60+, U20, U18, U16)
- 1.45pm 2.5km/1km (U14 & U12 – 2.5km; U10 – 1km)
- 2.45pm 10km (for sub 40min runners)
The course will be closed to spectators, coaches and supporters.
Takahe to Akaroa Road Relays
This event will go ahead if both Wellington and Canterbury are at Alert Level 1. Our organisers will need to make a final call on 23 September though, before making final deposits on accommodation and van rentals. This decision will be based on a clear indication from the government that Wellington and Canterbury will both be at Alert Level 1 before 2 October. If the relay does not go ahead those that have paid the club money will be refunded. In the meantime please remember to register your interest, including confirming your travel plans and confirming whether you are willing to drive a team van. If you have any changes of plan about going, or not going, please update that online or let Alistair Collow know as soon as possible.
The subsidised price for NZ Road Relays trip is $140. That includes accommodation, rental van transport in Christchurch, race entry and dinner on Saturday night. That just leaves you to get yourself to Christchurch. There are cheaper rates for supporters, or those who do not need accommodation and/or Saturday night dinner. There will also be an option to purchase premium accommodation for some who want it. For more details contact Alistair Collow.
Alert Level news
SportNZ has issued advice on its website about sport and recreation at Alert Level 2. The COVID-19 Outdoors website also contains useful, accurate information on what you can do.
The coming weeks will include changes. Keep an eye on our Facebook group for the latest news, and information on any events and activities we organise. For instance, the Tuesday evening speed session and the Sunday long runs will go ahead by adapting to meet the requirements of Alert Level 2 – such as signing in and social distancing requirements. Contact our club captains Danielle and Ben for info, or check Facebook for details.
