Upcoming events

Novice Cup / Galashiels Trophy

  • This is a very popular race for Scottish members. This 4.9k race is run over a variety of terrain, including footpaths/roads, and an uphill bush track.
  • Show up at the Muritai School in Eastbourne before 2pm. It is an open handicap race, where runners are assigned a handicap in advance. The handicapping system allows slower runners to start first and holds the faster runners back for later starts. The race becomes a pursuit, and there is often a large bunch finishing together within only a minute or so.
  • Anyone can win on the day, if they outperform the handicap that has been assigned.
  • There are two prizes for this race, one for past winners of club trophies (Galashiels), and the other for those who have yet to win one (Novice).
  • A separate event for race walkers (the Cole Land Cup) is held at the same time, along the roads to the south. J-teamers have a 2k handicap/scratch race starting just before the 5k event.
  • 83 bus from town to Eastbourne or the East-West Ferry to Days Bay.

Wellington Cross Country Championships, Grenada North, 20 July

  • Interclub cross country race for all ages from juniors through to masters on the sports fields at Grenada North.

Halcombe Relay, July 27

  • Feilding Moa Harriers has invited us to join them in a relay through the quiet undulating roads of the Manawatu countryside. Course map and race details here. If anyone is keen on being in a team please contact Stephen Day so we can start to work out potential team numbers. We will drive up (carpool) and back on the same day. A good chance to run a relay with friends. From conversations so far, I expect we could send at least three teams.

NZ Road Relays, Feilding, 4-6 October

  • The New Zealand Road Relays are the highlight of the year and this year they are in Feilding on 5 October. Scottish organises transport to and from Feilding/Palmerston North and around the race, race entry, accommodation and dinner on Saturday night. We subsidise the cost for everyone significantly. So that you pay a flat fee of $190 if you are competing or $150 if you are a supporter. Marshall has booked out the entire Distinction Hotel in Palmerston North for us, plus some nearby motel rooms as well. We have also, this week, received a grant from the Lion Foundation for $4000, which is helping reduce the cost of the weekend for each of us. You can express your interest in going on the trip by completing this form: https://forms.gle/NhmVb21v7psp1rRT8

  • Athletics Wellington seeks feedback from athletes about our Senior Track and Field programme. Please help by filling in this survey form: https://forms.gle/tWQd8x7mZ6rpdCUU7.
