The sun was out for the Wellington Cross Country Champs, with the course mostly dry and solid underfoot. The organisers gave us a little surprise with the return of the fence at the top of the hill which has been absent for a few years now. Still, most people tacked it pretty well - at least on the early loops!! Over 68 Scottish runners completed the course.
Tina Harris (1st) and Nicole Mitchell (2nd) ran away with the Senior Women's race. Cam Goldsmid continued his cracking run of form with a win the Senior Men's race, with Dougal Thorburn close behind in 3rd.
Grant McLean and Michael Wray were 1st and 2nd in the Masters' Men, Peter Stevens was 1st M50 and Jonathon Harper 2nd M60. Jackie Mexted won the Masters' Women with Tricia Sloan 3rd. Michele Allison was 3rd W50.
In the junior races Stevie Paine and Ellen Van Looy were 1st and 2nd WU20, Harry Burnard 3rd MU18, Lachlan Parsons 3rd BU9 and Fenlon Bayley 3rd BU11.
Finally, Dave Parsons won the senior non-championship race.
The provisional results from Kapiti Running and Triathlon Club are attached below.
The Wellington Cross Country Championships is run on a challenging 2km loop in Waikanae Park. A mixture of flat and undulating cross country with 2 sharp climbs each 2km lap. Usually fairly firm underfoot and suitable for spikes. Course runs clockwise with the start and finish at the Pony Club end of the park.
