Nearly 20 Scottish members headed to Scorching Bay for the season opener. The ghastly weather of the week disappeared and we were threatened with sunburn, in place of windburn.
In the long event (under-distance 1000m/30k/8k), we traded away distance up Happy Valley road for the long climb of Houghton Bay road. James Turner was our fastest man, while Sierra Ryland was the fastest Scottish woman. Others were Valentino Hernandez, Andy Ford, Jamie White, Team Bradford and Sloan, John Skinnon. Kath Tate, Bridget Clark, Paul Rodway,
In the medium (500m/20k/4k) were Rebecca Speirs, Jane Loughnan, Becky Hawthorne, Karen Ward, with Tony Wolken doing the duathlon option. Several got lost on the turn. Thomas McCallum made up his own event. The rematch is on 7 December.
