Wellington Scottish's Hamish Carson is part of the New Zealand team of four athletes going to the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham 1-4 March.
Hamish is one of two athletes have been selected in the men’s 3000m for the championships. Olympian Hamish and US-based Julian Oakley have had strong performances in the US in recent weeks to earn their spots in the team. Oakley’s 7:44.34 in Boston took him to second and the New Zealand all-time indoor list, sandwiched between Zane Robertson (7:44.16) and Nick Willis (7:44.90).
Hamish narrowly missed the mark required to make the Commonwealth Games team in the 1500m, and the consolation prize of a place in the World Indoor Championships team came as somewhat a surprise at the end of the qualifying period.
The other two athletes selected are Olympic medalists Tom Walsh and Eliza McCartney.
