2016 New Zealand Mountain Running Championships

President Stephen Day reports: In the Senior Men's Race: Dougal Thorburn made his move about halfway on the second dowhill to become the Senior Men's 2016 Champion, defending his 2015 title by 6 minutes (1:03:46) - “I took it easy the first couple of loops, that was the plan and then with two loops to go I thought let’s go, I’m out of here,” said Thorburn.

New member Niam Macdonald came in 3rd, just under 8 minutes behind Dougal in 1:11:37. Stephen Day ran a superb race to win the Masters Men 40 race, coming home second overall in the Men's race 1:08:53. Jackie Mexted ran a strong race to come 2nd (47:29) MW 5th overall in the Woman's race.

Christine Jones won the 60-65 (38:33) whilst Loretta Desourdy was 3rd (48:52).
