A day out for the Scottish Club. The early starting marathoners were treated to a bit of rain, but for the rest of the events it stayed dry but chilly. Some people took advantage of drafting behind some of the larger competitors heading into the 30-40k southerly. The marathon didn't attract many members, possibly because the half marathon was the national and Wellington championship event. All told, about 5,000 people entered all events and about 4,400 finished.
Here are the podium finishes by Scottish members (or people who were members last year). In the marathon: Aubrey Begley (3:23), 2W, and Terri Grimmett was 3rd walker.
Rowan Hooper (1:08:48) was third in the half (and first Wellingtonian), while Katie Kemp picked up national silver on the women's side. In the age grades, Grant McLean was third in M3549, Lindsay Barwick was second W3549, and new arrival in the grade, Peter Stevens, was first M50+. Scottish won the males and female teams event in the half. Over 50 members competed in the half (or acted as pace setters), by my count.
In the 10k, Scottish commanded the men's podium: 1-2-3 were Cameron Goldsmid, Luke O'Donnell and James Richardson. Nicole Mitchell led the women in. Scottish won the open 10k teams event. Almost 20 members competed (or paced) in the 10k.
