Brooks Waterfront 5k Series, 30 March 2010

By Todd Stevens

78 competitors (including a fantastic 17 walkers) fronted for the Brooks Waterfront 5k race on 30 March, the second to last race in the series which has been running since August last year. Conditions were fine and warm, with a steady northerly making its presence felt over the last part of the race. Andy Bennett recorded his first win of the series with a time of 17min 16sec. In the women's race, Abbey Macfie also had her first win, recording a time of 19min 37sec. Terri Grimmett (31min 15sec) and Tim Dutton (28min 28sec) continued their great sequence of wins in the walking section, both going close to their best times of the year. Next week is the final race in the series, before we go into recess for the winter. But you can keep up your running and walking on the weekends by coming along to the Wellington Scottish club. All 5k competitors are invited to come along on a Saturday afternoon and see what Scottish has to offer. Scottish has either group runs / walks of some sort or a race every Saturday for the next six months.

Next Saturday, we meet at Massey University's gym (access via Tasman St, Mt Cook) at 2pm. So how about coming along? There is no charge if you would like to try running or walking with us for a few weeks, and there is no obligation to join the club. Group runs for all levels are on offer, and the running time will be between 45min and 65min. There will be around 120 - 150 others at the club. Next week the participation competition also concludes. If you compete in at least six races between the beginning of February and the end of the series on 6 April 2010, you will go into a draw for a range of great prizes (including a couple of pairs of shoes and other product prizes from Lifestyle Sports and free Scottish memberships). By our calculations, the following 54 people have done at least five races. Anyone that does at least six races will be in the draw. Note you do not have to be present next week to win the prizes, but obviously we would like to see you along for the final race and prize draw! (let Todd - todd.stevens@nz.pwc.com - know if you think your name should be on the list below but isn't).
